31. It has since been decided that the Bofors 57mm solution should be recommended
as the most suitable weapon system for the Hong Kong Patrol Craft, because insufficient time is available to develop, prove and bring the 105mm solution into
production.
PROPOSED SOLUTION
32.
From these three Material Studies and their subsequent discussion it is
deduced that:-

The replacement vessels should be procured via a design
and build contract following competitive tender action. The
NSR should be based on the most suitable features of the
displacement vessels listed in paragraph 25 with respect
to the Hong Kong Patrol Craft role.

The communications fit for the proposed vessel should
be that specified by URTS MERCURY.

The Bofors 57mm L70 Gun Mounting with associated 57mm Rocket
ore Launcher Rails or 2 in. PL's] and Sperry SFA ARCHER 1 Fire
Control Lysten should be selected as the primary weapon system.
NUMBERS
33. The number of vessels needed has been separately investigated against the
requirements of the two major modes of operation, namely:
