WEATHER FACTORS

14. Sea conditions in the South China Sea and Hong Kong waters are very variable.

In typhoons they can become exceedingly bad with both long high swells and short

steep seas.

15. Within local Hong Kong waters, high swell conditions within the East and

North Sectors can pertain for up to 100 days of the year, making conditions unter-

able for Marine Police craft.

OPERATIONS IN PERIODS OF TENSION OR CONFRONTA TION

16. During periods of tension or confrontation, the Patrol Craft are required to:-

Deter armed Chinese Public Security and Militia Vessel incursions which

may be beyond the capacity of RHKP Marine District.

Act as required in support of Internal Security (IS) operations,

particularly where movement of resources by sea becomes necessary.

C. Deter any attempt to interfere with Hong Kong's sea communications.

d.

Act in coordination with the Marine District RHKP in any confrontation

at sea, providing positive assistance if police launches are attacked or

threatened, and taking offensive action if necessary to allow police launches

to withdraw.
