BRUNEI AND BRITAIN TO SIGN A NEW TREATY
During the last two weeks His Highness the Sultan of Brunei, accompanied by his father Sir Omar, and Lord Goronwy-Roberts, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for Her Majesty's Government, have discussed the future international status of Brunei. These talks have taken place in the spirit of close friendship which characterises the long-standing and traditionni relationship between the two countries and which both countries wish to continue.
it has been agreed that the Sultan of Brunei and the British Government should sign a new Treaty under which the State of Brunei will assume its full international responsibility as a Sovereign and independent State at
the end of 1983. Documents will now be prepared and will be initialled in London in September.
