As you know we await the response of the Prime Minister and members of DOP to S of S's minute of 20 July about the future of the Brigade of Gurkhas. In view of the imminence of the Parliamentary recess it is increasingly unlikely that the matter will have been cleared in time to permit announcement of the changes by an arranged PQ.
2.
In these circumstances, we envisage that the announcement would be made by an official press statement. A first draft is attached for your comment by close of play on Tuesday 1 August, prior to obtaining Ministerial clearance.
3. I would be grateful if DPR(Army) would provide a suggested list of questions for a Q and A brief which would accompany the statement.
