Royal Air Force
49. The Royal Air Force presence consists of:

Commander RAF Hong Kong and a small staff.
RAF Kai Tak. This is a small unit which uses the runway and air traffic control facilities of the civil airport for visiting RAF aircraft which, in the main, are transports. RAF Kai Tak are due to move to Sek Kong in May 1978 but will continue to maintain a small unit at Kai Tak for liaison with the civil airport authorities and contractors in handling RAF transport aircraft which will continue to use this airport.
Local Defence Forces and Police
50. Local Defence Forces
The local defence forces are financed and administered by the Hong Kong Govern- ment.
Their officers are commissioned by HE the Governor.
51. The Hong Kong Local Defence Forces consist of the Royal Hong Kong Regiment (The Volunteers) and the Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force (RHKAAF), all Territorial.
52. The Regiment has a strength of about 600 volunteers and is organised as a light reconnaissance regiment. The Regiment would come under command of HQ Land Forces on the order of the Governor in an emergency.
53. The RHKAAF is basically a part time organisation but there is a small per- manent staff which includes seconded RAF personnel. The force has a strength of about 120 volunteers and is equipped with 3 ALOUETTE helicopters, 1 BEECH- CRAFT MUSKETEER single engine trainer, 1 BRITTEN NORMAN ISLANDER aircraft and 2 BULLDOG trainers. The secretary for Security exercises command until the Force is called out, when command is transferred to the Commander RAF.

The Royal Hong Kong Police Force has a total strength of approximately 16 051,
In addition there including some 224 gazetted officers, who are mainly British.
are some futther 760 Europeans in the Inspectorate. Apart from these and a small number of Pakistanis, the remainder of the Force is almost entirely Chinese, born in Hong Kong or originating from Kwantung or adjacent provinces. Auxiliary Force strength is approximately 4500
