UNFORESEEN PRIORITY TWO COMMITMENTS UNDERTAKEN SINCE 1975
29. While the developments discussed in the previous section have
been taking place, the following operations have been undertaken
at short notice:
a.
1975
(1)
Reinforcement of Belize. One frigate, 2 infantry
companies, 6 Harrier aircraft, 3 Puma helicopters,
8 assault boats and crews for low level air defence
guns were deployed in October 1975. The frigate and one
infantry company were withdrawn in February 1976, the
Karrier aircraft in April 1976 and the gun crews in
July 1978.

Fisheries dispute with Iceland. Up to six frigates
with RFA Support and 20% of total Nimrod flying hours
from November 1975 to May 1976.

1977
(1)
Reinforcement of Belize. One frigate, one LSL
and RFA Support, a rifle company and tactical headquarters,
6 Harrier aircraft, a Tigercat flight and an SAS element
were deployed in July 1977. Of the Naval forces, the
frigate remains "on call". Two of the Harriers and the
Tigercat Unit were withdrawn in July 1978.
