Dear Wo
Wordfiets,
VISIT BY MR DENSON TO GURKHA ESTABLISHMENTS, HONG KONG FEBRUARY 1978
1. During our recent telephone conversation I confirmed that MOD had agreed, exceptionally, that Mr and Mrs Denson should be allowed to travel on a Gurkha trooping flight from Kathmandu to Hong Kong, in response to an invitation from Commander British Forces, for Mr Denson to visit Gurkha establishments and units in Hong Kong. This visit would take place in early February.
2. This agreement is subject to no duty passengers being off-loaded, and also clearance being obtained from the Indian Government on this use of the Gurkha trooping flights.
3.
Although this latter requirement does not seem to be stated explicitly in our agreement with the Indians, we did obtain clearance through the Air Adviser in New Delhi when US of S (Army) and his entourage used a trooping flight in similar circumstances during his visit to Hong Kong and the Far East last year. I would therefore be grateful if you would seek agreement from the Indian authorities for the use of Gurkha trooping facilities by Mr and Mrs Denson.
4. As we are already half way through January, I would be grateful if you would inform me as soon as you obtain clearance.
arrangements.
5. I assume the Governor of Hong Kong will endorse these
