Dear Sir,

Your article "The House of Card" by Peter R. Kann was interesting (Asiaweek Nov 25, 77). I am also worried about Hongkong future. What will the 4 million Hongkese (people of Hongkong) do when Britain leave them to the Dragon of China after her mandate is over? Something must be done.

Let us reread Peter Kann phrases" Hongkong's government has no reserves to fall back on. No army, beyong a few token Britásh battalions. No political mandate from its 4 million peop subjects. No means of accurately measuring, much less effectively mobilising public support." These phrases sound as if longkong future is doom. This make the Hongkese more nervous.

How about Britain giving self-government (later full government) to the 4 million Hongkese in this 400 square miles State. A British can retain tlie Governorship, a longkese become a Chief Minister and with an elected Le iclative Assembly representing the people. Such formula works when Tunku Abdul Rahman was Chief Minister of Malaya then.

Finnally, Can Britain stop China in reclaimming her lost ter itory? yx My answer is a fifty-fifty. Vietnam formula has prove that foreign ruler haş limited chance. Hence, let the Hongkese enjoy some years of self-rule.

Thank you.

:

Yours sincerely

Ru

Robin Donald.
