1. Welcoming Dr Sa Machado, Dr Owen hoped that the lond-standing
ties between the two countries would be deepened and that Britain
could help Portugal in her intrcavation to the EEC. Dr Sa Machado
said he was grateful for Britain's attitude to Portugal's
accession.
