1. Very many thanks for your letter of 31 January about your leave this year. You will be very welcome on Tuesday, 16 May and I shall arrange that, if possible, Hugh Cortazzi, Dick Stratton (and Donald Murray who is the Under-Secretary responsible for Hong Kong) will be available to see you, as well as Jim Hall.
2. I should certainly like to lunch with you and I shall pass on the invitation to Dick and Hugh. At this time it is impossible to commit them so far in advance as they often have to travel at short notice, but I will ensure that it is pencilled into their diaries.
3. I am glad you are enjoying Housing. I certainly think it is one of the best jobs at Secretary level in Hong Kong and I also believe that everyone should have a change every three years anyway and after three years in the Civil Service Department I think you deserve the best job going.
