MR JACK CATER CBE

Mr Cater was born on 21 February 1922 and educated at Sir George Monoux Grammar School. He saw war service in the RAF, attaining the rank of Flight Lieutenant. After his demobilisation in 1946 he joined the Hong Kong Civil Service as an Administrative Officer (Cadet) and served in various departments including Commerce and Industry and Agriculture and Fisheries. In 1967 he was appointed Defence Secretary, transferring in the same year to the Colonial Secretariat as Deputy Colonial Secretary (Special Duties). From 1968-70 he was on leave from the Hong Kong Government, serving as Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. He returned to Government service in 1970 as Director of Commerce and Industry and became Secretary for Information in 1972. In 1974 he retired from the Hong Kong Civil Service on appointment as Commissioner, Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Mr Cater was awarded the MBE in 1956 and the CBE in 1973.

He is married and has three children.
