FAMILIARISATION TOUR
1.
Thank you for sending me a copy of your minute of 5 December.
2.
I agree with Mr Samuel (his minute of 5 December) that you would do best to divide your proposed schedule of visits, taking in Hong Kong, China, Tokyo and Seoul, on one occasion and the remaining capitals on another. On that basis I also agree that it would make sense to start in Hong Kong, where the Political Adviser would be able to arrange a suitable programme. Members of this department have found that the best arrangement is to take the mid-day flight on a Friday, arriving in Hong Kong late on the Saturday afternoon. would then have the Saturday evening and Sunday to recover from jet-lag and spend the next 11-2 days meeting China watchers and others in Hong Kong.
