You will no doubt have seen the S C M P editorial of 14 August and Kevin Sinclair's article on 15 August about the difficulties citizens of the USSR and other East European countries have in getting visas to visit Hong Kong. This is a subject which the press here show interest in fairly regularly. For the record, you will wish to know that these stories were quickly picked up and reported without further comment by the Left-wing press here.
(copies enclosed for Peking and F E D only). was a further story on the same subject by Paul Majendie of Reuters on 24 August, partly based on conversations he had with David Wilson and me. not sure whether this has been much used by the press outside Hong Kong and I, therefore, enclose a copy of it for ease of reference. This story was also picked up without comment by the WEN WEI PAO.
