The number of officers included in an official
visit to a sensitive country must be restricted to the
minimum and wives will not normally be allowed to
accompany their husbands.
12.
In advance of consideration of an application
by the Secretary for Security for an official visit,
officers should not give any indication to their
prospective hosts that the acceptance of an invitation
is likely to be approved.
APPEALS
13.
If an application to go on a private visit
is refused because of the restrictions imposed by
paragraph 8 of this circular, and if the applicant
considers, that there are compassionate or other grounds
which should override those restrictions the applicant
may appeal to the Secretary for Security, through his
Head of Department, setting out his reasons in writing.
PRIVATE VISITS BY FAMILIES TO SENSITIVE COUNTRIES
14.
There are no restrictions on private
visits to China, Taiwan or Rhodesia by the families

15.
The immediate family (spouse and dependant
children) of officers who are not allowed to visit
the countries referred to in paragraph 8(b) should
accept the same restrictions on visits to those countries.

If the restrictions are not accepted, details of such
visits should be included in the quarterly return referred
