REQUIREMENT TO OBTAIN APPROVAL FOR PRIVATE VISITS TO CHINA OR TAIWAN

Subject to the provisions of paragraph 8 below,
officers, other than disciplined and civilian staff of the
Royal Hong Kong Police and the Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary
Police, who occupy posts or grades which are NOT listed
under Category A in Appendix I to Personnel Security
Instructions may make private visits to China or Taiwan
without obtaining specific approval for such visits,
although permission to leave Hong Kong is still required
under CSR 468.

Those posts or grades which are listed in
Category A should apply in writing to their Head of
Department, or the Secretary for the Civil Service, as
set out in paragraph 5. Officers in this category will
normally be permitted to make private visits to China,
providing they are not restricted from doing so under
paragraph 8.
8.
RESTRICTIONS ON PRIVATE VISITS TO SENSITIVE COUNTRIES
Officers who should not be given approval to
visit the following countries privately are listed below
each of the under-mentioned countries:-
(a)
China
(i)
(ii)
officers confirmed in their appointment
to posts at D2 and DJL2 level and above,
the Chairman of the P.S. C. and the
Commissioner ICAC;
officers who have had access to
Top Secret material during the preceding
twelve months, or are scheduled to have
such access in the immediate future;
