(TEXT) An article entitled "Hua's Surname is not Hua", which appeared in the 11th issue of Cheng Ming, aroused great interest among readers and has moreover been re- printed and transmitted by foreign magazines and news agencies. As a relative of someone in Hunan who worked for 8 years under the direct leadership of Hua Kuo-feng who was then Secretary of Hunan Provincial C C P Committee, I have seen Hua and his wife myself and am therefore quite familiar with his family.

Hua Kuo-feng, originally named Su Chu (5685 6999), was born in 1920 in a village of Chiaocheng County in Shansi Province. As a result of his participation as a youth in the "Chinese Anti-Japanese National Salvation Vanguard", Hua picked from these nine characters the three characters Hua, Kuo and Feng, thus forming his own name to show his early determination to revote and dedicate himself to the Chinese Revolution. Hua's wife Han Chih-chun (7281 5347 0193), 47 years old and native of Shansi, currently holds the position of Director of the Political Department of the China Light Industry Export Company. As a member of the Presidium of the Fourth National Women's Congress held on 8 September this year, Han was elected to the Executive Committee of the Fourth Executive Committee of the Chinese National Women's Federation. She has a stout but tall build with thick eyebrows and big eyes - an appearance very similar to that of Hua.

Hua has four children: the eldest son took the lead in going to the rural areas to strengthen himself after graduating in Changsha, and then served in the military; the youngest daughter, upon graduation from No. 166 Secondary School of Peking joined the labor force and settled in the rural areas after being encouraged by a Parents' Symposium at the school which was also attended by Hua.

With a tall build and Hunan accent, Hua's youngest daughter greatly resembles her father. Laboring diligently with great initiative and drive in the Tapailou Production Brigade, she has won great compliments from the local peaants. She was selected for admission to Peking's
