contained argumentative and contro- versial treatises criticising CPG policies and measures, as well as philosophical dissertations on Marxism, Leninism, and related

communist doctrines. Points of doubt were raised and clarified, critical queries made and answered, often in dialogue form between a critic and a defender of the

communist faith. Such intellectual exercises were apparently designed to appeal to the young intelligentsia in Hong Kong (c.g. post-secondary and senior secondary students) who, despite the strong patriotic appeal of the Motherland, disliked dogmatic or pedantic approaches and disciplines in political philosophies.
