Fell victim to the Cultural Revolution when he was accused
of shielding revisionists, including his wife, and of being
opposed to the Great Leap Forward and to the Central Committee. Radio Canton broadcast that "bourgeois rightists and revi- sionists had flourished under the paternal rule of WONG Hong who altogether lacked class sympathy". Dismissed from all posts within and outside the party, he went to live in Nor-
thern Kwangtung but was brought back to Canton by Red Guards in May 1967.
