Dear Mr. Samuel,

I spoke to your secretary the other day explaining that I had just returned from Hong Kong where I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. David Wilson, Political Adviser for the Hong Kong Government, and speaking on the telephone several times to Mr. Roger Garside at the British Embassy in Peking. The reason for the meetings and telephone conversations was that when Mr. Garside was on leave recently in London he had telephoned me about the possibility of British artists visiting the Republic of China.

Everyone was most enthusiastic about this idea, and I would be most grateful if you could spare me five minutes of your valuable time to discuss this matter further.

Mr. Garside did mention to me that it might be possible that you could arrange a meeting with Mr. Hu Ting-Yi, who I believe is a counsellor with the Chinese Embassy here in London.

I am returning to Hong Kong late in October, and Mr. Garside thought it would be a good idea if it were possible for me to obtain a visa to spend one or two days in Peking.

However, as I say, if we could meet I would like to discuss this matter with you further.

Yours sincerely,

Anthony Chardet
