1. We have received no consolidated report on Chinese economic activities in and through Hong Kong in my time in the Department; most of our knowledge has come from press summaries and articles in the Far East Economic Review, though some of the more important developments have been reported separately. It would certainly be very useful if the Political Advisers office could provide regular reports, to include assessments of the significance of the various developments described (Mr Orr's letter merely lists
2. I should therefore be grateful if Mr Thompson would welcome the proposal for regular reports in Mr Orr's letter. I will speak similarly to Dr Wilson.
