Interpretation
Aircraft and aircraft engines (including the Spey and Trident contracts) now form the major part of UK trade (% of total trade has risen from 34% in 1975 to 55% this year). Exports to China of iron and steel,machinery and textile products have shown a significant decline this year.
The Trident contract was signed in August/September 1971, total value £120 million (35 aircraft) and 5 aircraft are still to be delivered. contract should be completed by mid-1978.
