Purpose
To develop a Frogramme Plan for the KCR on the basis of a consultancy study on the modernisation of the railway system.
Progress Made & Present Position
Next Quarter Targets
(a) An interim consultancy is being agreed (a) Process Transmark's
with Transmark to deal with items critical to the electrification programme if electrified services are to begin by mid 1981, including :- (i) location and design of the
maintenance and stabling depot; (ii) measures necessary for
immunisation against electrical interference systems on and off KCR property;
(iii) the optimum future signalling
and communications systems; (iv) detailed specification of
electrical multiple unit rolling stock;
Advice on these items will be
submitted between May and September
1978 and will precede a detailed
design stage.
recommendations on items covered by the interim consultancy and, in particular, secure a decision on the location of the maintenance and stabling depot.
(b) On 15th March 1978, Finance Committee (b) Update the project
approved :-
(i)
a new item in Category B
entitled "Electrification of the KCR Hung Hom to Lo Wu"; (ii) funds for the interim consultancy. (c) Volume IV of Transmark's draft final report, on the viability of a branch line from Fanling to Tuen Mun via Yuen Long, is expected very shortly. (a) An alternative public transport
solution to a Tsim Sha Tsui under- ground rail extension is to be investigated.
