To provide for workmen's compensation for workers suffering from silicosis and asbestosis.

To improve safety measures

at construction sites.

Next quarter _targets

(a) The Bill was enacted on 7th June.

(b) Draft Regulations concerning medical

examination of workers in specified trades are being finalised.. Consultation with affected trades is continuing.

(c) A list of points of detail concerning the

establishment and administration of the Pneumoconiosis Compensation Fund and Board has been circulated to interested departments. When agreed they would be discussed with the Accident Insurance Association before they are finalised as Drafting Instructions for a new set of Regulations.

Draft Regulations finalised. Since the principal Regulations were re-enacted on 19th July 1978 it is considered appropriate to defer this item to the beginning of the next session of the Legislative Council,

Implementation of Pneumoconiosis Compensation Scheme to await enactment of, Regulations on medical examination.

To seek the Executive Council's approval for Regulations to be made.

To finalise Drafting Instructions.
