To expand and improve secondary education to meet the 1974 White Paper targets.

To prepare plans for the further development of all stages of education beyond the basic junior - secondary course.'

Progress made and present position

Next quarter targets

Stages I and II of the secondary school building. programme are progressing without serious slippage.

On 7th July 1978, the Finance Committee accepted the financial implications of achieving, by 1981, the 1974 White Paper target of providing a subsidised senior secondary place for 40% of Form III leavers. The construction of the 18 schools required to meet this target will constitute Stage III of the schools building programme.

To continue to monitor progress of Stages I, and III of the secondar school programme.

A draft outline of the White Paper was considered To complete the White at a meeting at Government House on 8th May. A

Paper. further meeting of the inter-departmental working party under the Director of Education's chairman- ship was held on 29th June and agreement was reached on the form of the expansion programme for senior secondary education and on a scheme

for providing financial assistance to the approved post-secondary colleges to enable them to achieve sixth form and tertiary education targets. detailed paper on this scheme has been prepared for discussion with the post-secondary colleges.
