Development of an Integrated Public Transport System for 1980.

Purpose

To resolve major policy problems related to constructing extensions to the Modified Initial System which cannot be settled within the specialist committees dealing with land acquisition, planning and

construction work.

To study the changes in other public transport modes required as a result of the opening of the MIS of the MTR and the electrification of the KCR.

(a) The Tsuen Wan Mass Transit Extension (a) Reference Committee

Reference Committee under the chairmanship of the Secretary for the Environment has continued to deal with high level decisions concerned with the extension.

(b) Tenders for the two major contracts

Nos. 301 and 302 closed on 24th July. Contract Nos. 303 Lai King Station, tunnels and overhead structure, 305 Tai Wo Hau Station and tunnels and 307 Tsuen Wan Station site formation works went out to tender on 29th May, 3rd July and 19th Junc respectively. (c) Resumptions and clearance of land

required for the depot are well in hand. Additional compensation of post-war owner occupiers of tenement buildings has been agreed. The formula for assessing compenation of factory owners is awaiting approval by Finance Committee.

(a) Halcrow Fox & Associates have been

chosen as the consultants for the DIPTRANS project.

(b) The second meeting of the Steering

Group was held on 6th July to discuss the revised brief for the consultants, the Inception Report and the Monthly Progress Report.
