Palace of Westminster (Cleaning and Restoration)
Mr. Greville Janner asked the Secre- tary of State for the Environment what steps he is taking to proceed with the cleaning and restoration of the exterior of the Palace of Westminster, recom- mended on grounds of conservation in his Department's study of April 1974, which was examined at his request by the Select Committee on House of Commons (Ser- vices) and endorsed by it in its third report of the Session 1977-78, ordered to be printed on 14th March 1973.

Mr. Nicholas Fairbairn asked the Sec- retary of State for the Environment what steps he is taking to proceed with the cleaning and restoration of the exterior of the Palace of Westminster, recom- mended on grounds of conservation in the Department's study of April 1974, which was examined at his request by the Select Committee on House of Commons (Services) and endorsed by it in its third -report of Session 1977-78.
Mr. Marks: Subject to early approval by Parliament of the recommendations in the Third Report from the Select Com- mittee on House of Commons Services, it would be possible to start in the Summer Recess of 1979. Meanwhile, the demon- stration on one bay on the east river front -recommended in the Third Report- has been completed and our officials are now engaged in contingent preliminary planning, in consultation with the House authorities.
Palace of Westminster (Bomb-proof Curtains)
Mr. Nicholas Fairbairn asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the cost of the bomb-proof cur- tains erected in the Palace of Westminster during the recess; and how many were put in.

Mr. Lomas asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, in the light of the growing interest in the game of pool, if he will assist through the Sports Council or otherwise the development of the game in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Denis Howell: The Sports Coun- cill is already having discussions with representatives of the pool players to see what can be done to support and develop their game. I shall write further to my hon. Friend about this.

Mr. Ronald Brown asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what pro- gress the Location of Offices Bureau has made with the remit announced in 1977 to attract overseas firms to the United Kingdom.

Mr. Wrigglesworth asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what arrangements are made to ensure Hong Kong civil servants are in- formed of and experienced in the policies and programmes of Her Majesty's Gov- ernment in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Luard: There is close and frequent contact between my officials and those of the Hong Kong Government, who are fully aware of our policies and cro- grammes. A number of British civil ser- vants are serving on secondment in Hong Kong and we are pursuing the question of interchange.
