(AGACEST) has challenged the findings of the Committee of
Enquiry held last year and is threatening industrial
action. Should this materialise it could affect the
Public Works Programme since the Association represents
some 800 staff.

C.S.B. will try to concentrate the interest
of this Association on improved promotion opportunities
where some progress is already being made. There is
no room for manoeuvre on pay.

The only other serious staff dispute concerns
Assistant Social Welfare Officers in the Social Welfare
Department who have petitioned for better pay and
promotion prospects.
Militant action is a medium-term
possibility and the position is being reviewed urgently.

Administrative Local Recruitment 1978
Results of the local recruitment written
examination are now available. Of the 542 who took part,
109 (95 in Hong Kong and 14 in London) are shortlisted
to attend for selection interviews commencing in May.

The overseas recruitment of young graduates
which is being carried out under the auspices of the
FCO is near completion. A total of 134 applications
was received, from which 51 were shortlisted for selection
