Class and all staff are working normally.
5.
Only 109 Shorthand Audio Typists have yet
to accept Government's offer to regrade to the new
grade of Stenographer. It is expected they will do
so, individually and gradually as time goes by.
6.
The new committee of Shorthand Audio Typists
Association considers itself still in dispute with
Government but there is no evidence of active support
from the membership. The 109 who have not yet opted
to regrade are giving passive support but they are a
minority, the majority of the grade having taken the
advice of the former committee which settled with
Government.

It is believed the Committee's recent
moves have been confined to maintaining contact with
UK sympathisers, e.g. the General Secretary of ASTMS,
Mr Clive Jenkins who in March wrote to the Governor
proposing conciliation or arbitration and offering
the services of his Association.
It was explained
to him that as 95% of the Secretarial Class including
75% of the Shorthand Audio Typist Grade had settled,
arbitration was not appropriate.

There are still some problems with the
sub-professional support grades in the Public Works
