APPOINTMENTS DIVISION
192 vacancies within PSC's purview were
advertised locally between 1.2.78 and 30.4.78. On 30.4.78,
222 posts were under recruitment overseas (including 75
Police Inspectors for 1978/79). 95 newly appointed
officers (including 20 Police Inspectors) assumed duty
from overseas between 1.2.78 and 30.4.78.

Recruitment to the rank and file of the Police
Force between 1.1.78 and 31.3.78 totalled 428. On 31.3.78
there were 257 vacancies in the rank and file establishment
of 16,328. The establishment is expected to increase
soon and the recruitment target from 1.4.78 to 30.6.78 is
684.

Since the scheme to re-deploy surplus Government
primary school teachers to other jobs within the
Education Department and other Government departments was
announced in July 1977, 350 such teachers have been
re-deployed or had their applications for early retirement
approved. The estimated surplus by September 1980 (the
date when compulsory retirement will take effect, if
necessary) has therefore been reduced from 1,100 to
750 so far.
