APPOINTMENTS

During the reporting period 431 vacancies within

the PSC's purview were advertised locally; on 31st

October 1978, 153 posts were under recruitment overseas

(including 45 posts of Police Inspector for 1978/79).

During the quarter 67 newly appointed officers (including

11 Police Inspectors) assumed duty from overseas.

Recruitment to the rank and file of the Police

Force totalled 681. On 30th September 1978 there were

only 537 vacancies in the rank and file establishment

of 17,087, but a further increase is expected in the

establishment.

Since the scheme to re-deploy surplus Government

primary school teachers to other jobs within the Education

Department and other Government departments was announced

in July 1977, 631 teachers have been re-deployed under

this scheme or have had their applications for early or

normal retirement approved. The estimated surplus in

September 1980 (when compulsory retirements will be

introduced, if necessary) has therefore been reduced from

1,100 to 469, so far.
