Visit of UK school's inspector
(1)
Agreement has been obtained from the ODM to finance from Technical Cooperation funds a visit this autumn by an education adviser selected by the British Council. Hong Kong's reaction is awaited.
ILO Conventions
(1)
Whether the 2 Conventions on workmen's compensations have yet been applied. The latest estimate on Professor Turner's final report.
Broadening of UMELCO
(1)
The Governor's reaction to our proposals to replace various members of LEGCO. Mr Stewart suggested Dr Chen, an Economist at the Chinese University, and Mr Chan Kan-Chuen, a Trades Unionist, to the Governor.
Economic Value of Hong Kong to UK
(1) Agreement has still not been reached over the value of Kaitak.
Hong Kong's Economy and Budget
(a)
I understand that Mr M Stewart is reporting on Hong Kong's economy and budgetary strategy.
Social Development
(a) Mr Stewart may like to report on the Governor's reaction to our draft outline plan for the 1980's. A progress report on the proposed introduction of the social security scheme may be made. According to the Governor, he will be presenting this to EXCO, probably with a recommendation towards accepting the compulsory scheme, but EXCO may opt for voluntary contributions. The Governor will no doubt be inviting
