LEGCO APPOINTMENTS
1. In his telegram number 1037, the Governor informed us that one of the candidates for appointment to IEGCO approved by Lord Goronwy-Roberts last week has declined. This is a pity but not altogether surprising: good candidates for the Councils are bound to be busy people, whose other commit- ments may conflict with EXCO or LEGCO membership.
2. The replacement candidate proposed by the Governor is in much the same mould as Professor King and seems almost equally good (indeed, he might well have been put forward as a candidate some time ago). I did not think it was necessary to trouble you at home over the holiday weekend. I therefore asked the Resident Clerk to send a telegram approving the appointment.
