One other point on the Gurkhas which Hong Kong obviously felt strongly in respect of Lrunei was the very serious effect they consider the loss of the Brunei facilities would have on the morale of the Gurkhas Brigade.

The Assistant Commissioner for Industry was extremely disappointed at the lack of progress made by the Committee and particularly at its apparent lack of any sense of direction. e places the blame fairly and squarely on the Financial Secretary, who chairs the Committee, who, he maintains, fears that the Committee will turn into an Economic Levelopment Council, something which Mr Haddon-Cave could not accert.
