As of late, it has come to our attention that reports are prevalent

in the local press to the effect that the British Goverment is considering

to further extend the term of office for Sir Murray MacLehose as the Governor

of Hong Kong. If this news is correct, then we are truly delighted and would

feel grateful to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as well as the Prime Minister

and the Foreign Secretary for their wisdom and insight in employing worthy

public servants to best cause and purposes. We deeply appreciate your

kind effort and beg to convey our heartfelt thanks to you all. If the current

news is incorrect, we are obliged to beg you to petition to the Prime Minister

and through him to Her Majesty the Queen to re-extend Sir Murray's term of

office in Hong Kong so that he may have adequate time in rendering more

and greater service to the community as well as to Anglo-Chinese relations.

It is true that relations with China is now amicable and on

excellent terms, but as to trade, there is still plenty of room for improvement.

At the present time, China has launched an ambitious programme to achieve

a four-fold modernisation, both military supplies and consumer goods are

therefore in dire demand. If Britain could strive hard to gain upper hand in
