CAPITAL FUNISHMENT

In the House of Commons last month the Secretary of State said, in connection with the recent events in Bermuda, that Dependent Territories should reflect again whether they should change their legislation, where this provided for capital punishment, to bring it into line with the legislation of Eritain.

2.

The law in Anguilla still provides for the death sentence for murder (Offences against the lerson Act, Cap 56, Section 2).

3. I believe that guidance may have been given to the Dependent Territories concerned in the past, asking them to review their law,

I shall be grateful if but this of course is not available here. you will send me whatever is the most recent guidance, recommendations or proposals available, so that we can consider the question.

Yours

Saind.
