Hong Kong Government Shorthand and Audio Typists Association 1. The Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the HKGSATA called on the Overseas Labour Adviser and subsequently on the department on 16 January to put their case in their dispute with the Hong Kong Government. Un 18 January they had a meeting with Lord Goronwy-Roberts, at which they were accompanied by Mr Tom Pendry P. During their stay in the United Kingdom, they have enlisted the support on a dozen or so MPs and four public sector unions. Lord Brockway has put down an-oral Questión in the House of Lords, and letters connected with their case have been received from a number of MP's including Mr Parry, Mir Hooley, Mr Newens and Mr Lathan. Lord Goronwy-Roberts has undertaken to ask the Hong Kong Government to make renewed efforts to resolve the dispute, although a telegram from Hong Kong, commenting on Lord Brockway's FQ indicates a continuing disinclination to make any concession.

Turner Report

2. articles appeared in the Hong Kong press on 17 and 18 January about Professor Turner's interim report. The information on which they were based was suid to have come from sources in London who had read the report. The articles were accurate, though they appeared not to have given sufficient emphasis to the fact that the report was only an interim one and its conclusions only tentative. As a result, fir l'arry put down a kų for written caswer asking if the interim report would be published. (le had already in the previous week put down an oral Question about the final report).

3. The Secretary of State for Industry announced on 17 January the signing of the letter of intent for the construction of the CLP/Exxon power station in Hong Kong. news was warmly welcomed by most of the British press.
