Aid to India (FCO/ODM)

This paper, which was commissioned by DOP at its meeting on 4 July 1977, has been held up while talks with Indian officials have been taking place.

The Hydrographic Fleet A possible report from DOP(S) - (see below).

NATO Summit 1978 (MOD) I have just seen Nigel Wicks' letter of

28 December to Roger Facer saying that the Prime Minister wants this subject discussed in DCP in the New Year.

Cyprus The terms of reference of the study by officials (attached to

DOP(77) 34) require a preliminary report to be made to Ministers by 31 January 1978.

Brunei (FCO) Following his minute PM/77/127, the FCS may wish to report

on the latest developments.

Future of the Gurkhas (MOD) - This paper must await a final decision on the

future of our relations with Brunei generally.

Belize (FCO) I imagine that Dr Owen may want to report again after the

next round of discussions with the Guatemalans (paragraph 8 of his minute of 22 December to the Prime Minister).

Falklands (FCO) - Presumably the FCS will wish to seek the approval of DOP for the line to be taken in the next full round of negotiations which is due some time in the second quarter of 1978.

I am conscious that some of the timings I have suggested above are very much in the nature of guesses. But there are one or two other possible papers for DOP left over from earlier forecasts whose advent seems so uncertain that I have not attempted to put a date to them at all:-

Separation of Anguilla from St Kitts-Nevis (FCO) Independence for Dominica (FCO)

Status of the Apostolic Delegate (FCO)

5. I should also be glad if Desmond Bryars could say whether the Defence Secretary will be circulating papers on Anglo-Maltese relations (Nigel Brind's letter of 23 November 1977 to Bryan Cartledge) and the Medium Lift Helicopter and if so, when we can expect to see them.
