1. With reference to FCO telegram to Belmopan No 232 of 9 December, I have obtained the following information to date.

During the period 13 August 1964 to 10 July 1973 (date of Independence) the following persons were executed:

Samuel J Johnson, sentenced 4 May 1966, executed 12 July 1966.

Alexander Barr, sentenced 4 February 1969, executed 2 June 1969.

Charles Glinton, sentenced 11 February 1971, executed 3 April 1971.
During the same period there were 12 reprieves. No details have yet been provided by the Bahamas Government of these reprieves, nor of the reasons for the 3 executions. I hope however to be able to telegraph this information to you before 10 January.

The death penalty has been retained to date in the Bahamas. Since Independence there have been 4 executions and 11 reprieves.
