POSTAGE STAMP SUPPLIES: QUESTION OF REPRINTING

Definitive Issues: Countries have set periods

for the duration of definitives and in the case of the dependent

territories we recommend a period of 5 years.

efinitives may

therefore be reprinted as required when stocks run out.

Commemorative Issues (e.g. Special, thematic, etc.):

It is customary for "commemoratives" to be on

sale for three months and it is normal policy not to have reprints

of these issues. However cases have to be judged on merit, and if it

were clear that stocks would be exhausted within the first few weeks

of sale then exceptionally a further printing could be arranged.

Crown Agents are not in favour of reprints since the new printing

could slightly differ from the first and could be considered to be

exploitation of the collector. There is also a possibility that

during the re-printing process a deliberate error could be fed into

the issue a malpractice not uncommon in the stamp trade.

It will be realised how important it is

for good judgment to be exercised in the calculation of requirements

for the issue in the first place.
