1979 SPECIAL STAMP PROGRAMME
At this time of year I have regularly in the past written to your colleagues to ask whether there are any international events in the offing which you would like me to commend to the Post Office for commemoration in the programme.
The Post Office's current thinking includes a tentative series on children and childhood to recognise the UN Year of the Child. They have also left a space in which to include a series in honour of the elections to the European Parliament, if this should take place in 1979. But, whilst agreeing the latter, they comment that this type of subject is a highly unpromising topic for artistic representation. In fact, remembering the artistic deficiencies of too many stamps in honour of political anniversaries they look with apprehension on any such proposals.
Despite this, it is my duty to ask you, and I now do so.
