Why did this one woman have such an impact on her nation and the world?

How was she able to inspire such love and devotion from her subjects... such creative zeal...such desire for progress? Obviously she had great intellect, clever political skills, an innate sense of diplomacy and the ability to attract superior advisors.

However, the key to Victoria's greatness may best be found in her strong will to endure...to continue ever onward to higher and higher achievements regardless of personal adversities.

This impressive quality was evident in Victoria's deeds and actions throughout her lifetime, and most eloquently expressed in her prayer at the beginning of the 20th Century. At the age of 80 and in failing health, the Queen prayed simply that she "Be spared...yet a short while ...to do more"!
