quashed on appeal on technical grounds which do not undermine prosecution evidence accepted

by the court.

Essentially, the effect of proceeding in this way should be that only those officers acquitted of criminal charges and in whose case there are no other grounds would have to be reinstated (unless CR 55 is used after acquittal), despite the fact that their integrity was still suspect. It may not be possible in such cases to post them back to normal duties and, if over 45 years of age, they

should be encouraged to retire prematurely.
