CONTROL OF APPOINTMENTS IN THE NEW HEBRIDES UNDER COLONIAL
REGULATION 19
1. A reply has now been sent to Vila telno 641 which asked for approval of several Head of Department appointments. This has however pointed to the fact that our despatch of 17 May 1976 (copy attached) may well be out of date, by virtue of recent changes in the Condominium. I should be grateful if Mr Ridgway would look at the list of posts set out therein
and suggest any amendments, deletions or additions that should
be made,
2. We have recently proposed to DTs in the Caribbean that a rather more limited list of jobs should be designated. Of the posts mentioned in the despatch of 17 May 1976, the following are not proposed for inclusion in despatches to
Caribbean Territories:
Chief Medical Officer
Chief Accountant
Chief Education Officer
Establishment Secretary
Administrative Officer Grade A
Magistrate
There may howver be good reasons why control of these posts should be retained as regards the New Hebrides.
