The post demands a practical administrator with relevant dependent territories' experience. He must have tact and patience

as well as the character and determination at times to over-rule his Ministers and the wit to choose the right issues on which to do so. He needs the ability to communicate together with energy and imagination in promoting the island's development. He must be prepared to take part in the life of the community while maintaining a position somewhat apart. He will be backed by an expatriate Financial Secretary. A Job Description is at Appendix

a. J A Davidson OBE. Aged 55. Diplomatic Service Grade 4. 1939-1960 Royal Navy; 1960 to date CRO and FCO serving in the Port of Spain, Phnom Penh and Dacca and various departments in London. Currently British High Commissioner Brunei (biographical note at Annex A).

b. D K H Dale CBE. Aged 50. 1960-64 HMOCS Kenya; 1964-73 New Hebrides; 1973 Seychelles becoming Deputy Governor there in 1974. After independence he became Secretary to the Cabinet and remained in Seychelles until last year. Now working as Desk Officer on contract in WIAD. (Biographical note at annex B.)

C. A J Hunter OBE. Aged 50. 1949-1951 National

Service.

Colonial Service began 1956 in British Solomon Islands Protectorate where he had posts in the fields of Natural Resources, Labour and Finance until 1971. 1971-74 Chief Secretary later Deputy Governor Gilbert and Ellice Islands. 1974 to date Hong Kong where he is now Deputy Secretary of the Civil Service (Biographical note at Annex C.)
