INSPECTION
With the approval of Dick Stratton and the
Chief Clerk I propose to include Tarawa in the Spring
Inspection programme 1979, when an Inspection team will
be in the South-West Pacific. The tour will start in
New Zealand on about 15 January. The team will aim to
reach you on about 27 February and will stay about 4 days.
The Inspection will not be a full one, as it would

be of a Diplomatic Post, but the Inspector will be
available to discuss with you any matters affecting
management or procedure that you wish to raise with him.
The Gilberts are likely to be within a few months of
independence, the Inspector will briefed to form a view

on whether resident representation will be needed after
independence and if so on what scale. He will wish to
discuss this with you.

The Inspector will be Mark Heath. He will be
accompanied by an Assistant Inspector, Alan White and PA,
Marva Peart. He will be writing to you nearer the time
about exact dates, office and hotel accommodation and
any other requirements.
There will be no allowance Inspection on this
