I attach a draft minute to Mr Fry, Finance Department, ODM, forwarding St Helena's comments on the need for finance for the upkeep of Plantation House, which was of course the last residence of Buonaparte. You may feel that the proposed paragraph 2 is quite irrelevant and should be deleted. However, given the reverence for Napoleon in France, if at Helena were to seek funds for the improvement and preservation of the building by international subscription, or an issue of commemorative stamps or coins, the response might well solve their financial problem with this 'white elephant' for years
to come.
