These officers usually become Governors serving in previous colonial territories and can continue to contribute to Widows and Orphans Pension Schemes operated by these territories. They can also allocate part of their pension in favour of a spouse or dependent. A gratuity would also be payable to their wives.
Can continue to contribute to previous Overseas Widows and Orphans Schemes in which they have participated, but their period as Governor (being on contract) would not qualify them for any pension. If death occurred during service a gratuity would be payable to the widow.
Are not pensionable during their term as Governor and receive no gratuity covering this period.
The widow of a Governor killed on duty could normally expect to receive an ex gratia award.
