issued on 25th May 1976 described policy and practice on Civil Service pay increases and sought Members' advice on a pay increase for the Civil Service with effect from 1st April 1976.

In accordance with the approved policy and practice, it is proposed to invite the Finance Committee to consider a pay increase with effect from 1st April 1977 of approximately 7% for the Civil Service, other than the Directorate. Following a recommendation from the Standing Committee on Directorate Salaries and Conditions of Service, an increase of approximately 7% is proposed for the Directorate Scale. A copy of the draft Finance Committee agenda item is annexed.

Members are asked to endorse these proposals.
(The Secretary for the Civil Service (Mr J. C.A. HAMMOND) and the Principal Assistant Secretary (Civil Service) (Mr K. BROADBRIDGE) will attend before the Council for the discussion of this item).
