THE STRUCTURE FOR PERSONAL SECRETARIES

31.

There shall be two ranks in the grade, both functional. Personal Secretaries shall work either individually or shared to Assistant Directors and above but below the rank of Head of Department whilst Senior Personal Secretaries shall normally work individually to a Head of Department or equivalent or higher ranks, but below the ranks of Chief Secretary, Financial Secretary, Attorney General and Chief Justice which ranks shall have the services of Personal Assistants.

Entry to Personal Secretary shall normally be by competitive selection of Stenographers with speeds of at least 50 w.p.m. typing, and 110 w.p.m. shorthand. Exceptionally, experienced outside candidates and Diploma Holders in Executive Secretarial Sutdies of the HK Polytechnic shall be given direct entry. Entry to Senior Personal Secretary shall normally be by promotion of

Personal Secretaries but there shall be provision for direct entry to certain posts.

33.

Both Personal Secretaries and Senior Personal Secretaries shall provide a full secretarial service for their principals.

34.

Personal Secretaries shall be paid $1990 per month on entry on an 8 point incremental scale rising to a maximum of $2920. Those promoted to Senior Personal Secretary shall be paid $3070 on promotion on a 6 point scale to a maximum of $3925.

35.

The grade is at present structured on a 5: 4:1 ratio and is remunerated as follows :
