Meetings between the Civil Service Branch and

Typists

the second Committee of the Typists Unit of the Chinese

Civil Servants Association have led to agreement.

are now co-operating with Government and working normally.

5.

On 10th October 1977 the Shorthand Audio Typists

Association submitted a petition to the Governor, which

they copied to all members of the Executive and Legislative

Councils. The Association has become independent and

is no longer a Unit of the CCSA. The reason for this, it

is believed, is that the CCSA was lukewarm towards their

case and urged them to accept Government's proposals.

6.

The processing of the petition, which summarized

their case but containing nothing new of substance,

coincided with the visit to Hong Kong of Mr J.A.B. Stewart

who, on the 18th October 1977, on the directions of Lord

Goronwy-Roberts met a small delegation from the SATA and

listened to their case.

7.

The petition has been answered along the lines

of earlier petitions and letters from the SATA, all of

which have been answered in detail.
